 The Palme d'Or was awarded to Michael Haneke for The White Ribbon. Michael Haneke accepted the distinction from the hands of Isabelle Huppert with these words: "Thank you very much. Sometimes my wife asks me a very feminine question: that is, am I happy. Well, let me say that at this moment in time, I am very happy. Much thanks also to Thierry Frémaux for including me in this prestigious competition; to my producers, for letting me do what I wanted; to the funding sources which financed the film, and to the children, who were an enormous gift to me.  The Grand Prize was awarded to Jacques Audiard for A Prophet. Presented with the trophy by Willem Dafoe, Grand Prize winner Jacques Audiard expressed his emotion: |
 The Best Director Prize was awarded to Brillante Mendoza for Kinatay and presented by Terry Gilliam: "First of all I would like to thank the selection committee, who are responsible for bringing my films here for the past three years. And now with an award for Best Director, I would like to thank the Jury. And of course I’d like to thank my producer; thank you for the trust and faith in my films. I’d like to thank also a very committed staff and crew. I’d like to share this award with my daughter, Angelica, who has always been my number one critic and to an actor I really respect, Coco Martin. Thank you all for embracing my kind of cinema." |
 The Best Screenplay was bestowed by Anna Mouglalis on Lou Ye, who had the following words to say, "I would like my film cast and crew to join me on stage and to especially thank my screenplay writer, Mei Feng. I hope this will help facilitate Chinese filmmakers to find independent channels to work faster." |
 A special Lifetime Achievement Award for his work and his exceptional contribution to the history of cinema was bestowed by Isabelle Huppert upon Alain Resnais, who made the following remarks: "I must point out my surprise, emotion, and gratitude towards the Jury and Festival for this unexpected Lifetime Achievement Award. |
 The Jury Prize ended in a tie, and was bestowed by Laura Morante upon: Fish Tank by Andrea Arnold, who said, "Thank you to the Festival for showing my film in the first place. It’s a great honor to have a film screened here; it gives it a great start in life. Thank you to the Jury for your love and consideration, which must have been incredibly tough looking at all these films. I’d like to say that when you make a film you give a bit of yourself; in fact a lot of yourself on certain levels. Thank you for that recognition. Merci beaucoup." |
